We are done as a society. Our culture of guns has gone way too far and people can no longer take responsibility for their own actions. A mentally ill person gets a hold of guns his own mother couldn't bother to store safely, drunken idiots killing passengers in their own vehicle, a father allowing a loaded gun into the hands of a four year old who kills his two year old brother....and the response to tragedy is Aw shucks. Clearly guns are getting into the hands of the wrong people and its past time to take preventative measures.

What measures would be effective, badgerfan2? Guns cannot be legislated out of existence. Any laws drawn up to regulate, though well intentioned, won't prevent these types of tragedies. Yes, most guns used for murder were legally purchased and many have fallen into the wrong hands, but people who are intent on committing heinous crimes will get the weapons they need regardless if they're legally available or not. I equate the calls for outright bans of weapons with every other banned product in this country. Like the War on Drugs, or Prohibition, anytime a product is banned, it becomes an opportunity for outlaws, and the popularity of the banned products tend to increase, having the opposite effect of the intention of the law.

The laws in this country are way too liberal. Give the cops more freedom and authority to git rid of these criminals instead of letting them run free in society. People are afraid and are arming themselves against the bad guys. It's too bad that unstable people can have access to firearms, but it will only get worse unless our government passes laws to protect the innocent instead of the guilty!

I am glad to see Felton taking responsibility for his DWI! Anyone one of us who does or did drink alcohol and then drive could have seriously injured or killed someone else. When I grew up in the early 1960s it was a rite of passage into adulthood to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol. When I went into the military, cigarettes and alcohol were readily available and cheap to purchase. I am pleased to see efforts by society to educate and discourage use and abuse!! Felton, like Chris Carter can be a role model for other young men and women relative to alcohol/drugs!!
