Ryan Says: "Any returning starter will have to earn his spot next season. "We did not pitch well last year," General Manager Terry Ryan said. "We didn't pitch well the year before. We need competition. We need numbers and we need choices. We also need someone with experience who has a little bit more of a track record." ----------Terry, you need a couple of quality signings or quality trades, not numbers and choices. Boy they are getting a lot of press over the Correia signing, you'd think it was actually a quality pitcher they had picked up...

quantity does not equal quality, ryan needs to learn this lesson.

Did any of the reporter ask Terry if this is that Pretty Darn Good pitcher he was going to get? If so time to resign Terry

If you would just sign quality guys in the first place, you wouldn't need to bring 67 below average pitchers to camp. I don't know what's more frustrating, that they can't/won't spend the money to sign a couple high quality pitchers, or that they continually try to pull the wool over the fans' eyes under the facade that they're "trying" to sign the best fits for the job.

Stability? Terry Ryan believes Correia offers Stability and Competition. Does Terry Ryan understand the term? We've all had managers or supervisors that we've rolled our eyes at because they think they're doing a good job. Teryr Ryan is a perfect example of that. He has no idea what he's doing.

There is absolutely no question the Twins Ownership is behind how the Twins approach free agency. There model is get the best pitchers at the cheapest prices. I think Terry Ryan really isn't dumb by any means he's doing what he's told to do.

I also am not a big fan of the quantity over quality but Ryan has had some success there. Nathan, Liriano, Santana,Diamond. None of these guys were supposed to emerge like they did. I don't like this signing but if he goes out and gets one of the three guys listed above I would still give him a B-. Worley, Correia, one of the three, along with putting some really good prospects into our system would be a step forward IMO. If he signs any two of the three or just Shaun Marcum his grade would go up.

"quantity does not equal quality"....Often QUALITY does not equal quality.....A large proportion of good pitchers become BAD pitchers or INJURED pitchers the season following a career year....The odds of it happening to all TWENTY pitchers is far less than the odds of it happening to all TEN pitchers....So that is why QUANTITY can IMPROVE THE CHANCES for QUALITY.
