Must be nice to be a fan in a market where owners actually spend money on top talent.

and what did that "top talent" get the Angels last year? Zippo. The Dodgers? Nada. The Marlins? Goose egg. The Red Sox? I could go on...

He will probably never see more than $100,000 in actual cash though.

thefastone 1, I know what you mean, but even with that allstar megabuck lineup the Angels did not make the playoffs last year. Does this bloated signing guarantee them the post season this year? Who knows. I scratch my head as $200 million rosters are becoming the norm. All the while the game gets watered down with starting pitchers that boast 4.50+ ERA's,have limits of six innings or 100 pitches, specialist's at every position, utility players that are playing almost everyday while batting .200. And then last season, another Wild Card team added so that a few more fans can stay interested in their teams that would otherwise already be out of the playoffs. Think of it, another Wild Card team added just to keep a few more teams generating cash as long as possible. I do not know where this will end but it sure is making the Twins or several others team payroll of "only" $100 million look out of step. I will ask this question of the folks out in fan land, If the Twins were to make some jaw dropping mega buck FA signings that would 1) push the team payroll up into say the $150 million range 2) still not guarantee a playoff contending team, would you as the paying fan base, feel comfortable taking on the increase in ticket, food and drink prices that most certainly would accompany this increase in payroll?

The Twins don't have a 100 million payroll. Mauer is worth about 6 mill per year, Morneau about 4, so right now the real value of the payroll is less than 75 million. Yes the pohlads figured the 38 mill per year these two are stealing from them would be worth it by getting us to build them a stadium, but it has distorted the payroll to results ration so far it is unrecognizable.
