If you deduct the $800,000 paid to North Carolina to cancel the games with them, then that is a cool $100,000 profit. Hopefully this won't be used as a slush fund, like it was for this previous waste of money

answers the age-old question, "how much alcohol would you have to serve to get people to watch the gophers stumble around at TCF stadium?"

$900,000 dollars in sales for the U of MN athletic dept. and a lower rate of incidences than the prior 3 years. Say it ain't so - signed uptight MN prohibitionists.

Wow, another surprise. Much like the ePullTab fiasco the "experts" can't see the obvious but at least this time it's being wrong on the downside. Just wait until the legalize pot sales and allow it at stadium as then you'll see huge impact.

Almost a million dollars with fewer problems. Sounds like this should be expanded to hockey and basketball as well.

True, but they will get about 1.7 million for the bowl game.

This country is run by grandfathers who treat its citizens like 2 year olds. Anyone who thinks college kids wont either drink before hand or sneak it in if they want are ignorant. It's called tailgating. Why take a legal right away from the alumnae and upperclassmen. There is a reason countries like France have less underage drinking issues. On that note, grow up and legalize weed. I can not think of one reason (other than antiquated or paranoid) that it should not when tobacco and hard booze is.

The number of incidents were LOWER this year than all three previous years at the stadium. Police say that's because fans didn't over do it before entering the stadium, knowing they could leisurely drink within the stadium. This should have been common logic, but now we have the proof ...so extend beer and wine throughout the stadium! The fans have proven they can handle it and more sales means more $ for the U of M.

"One potential reason, Swanson said, is that previous years, fans knew they couldn't drink inside the stadium, so some arrived already drunk. This year, knowing they could get alcohol inside, fans arrived in a better state, he said" same holds true back in the 70's when the drinking age was 18. we didn't have same problems as today, because nobody had to be pre-drunk. and if the dwi laws were as tough back than as they are today, the statistics of the 70's would be way better than today.

They can use alcohol sales to 'fuel' school athletic departments, yet they can't do the right thing and legalize herb for compassionate use?? There is something SERIOUSLY WRONG with all of this...
