Well it will be interresting to see the reaction of the 52% of the people who voted for this guy. I certainly hope the cliff happens and we can pick up the pieces from there. And don't dare blame this on GW.
This is what happens when Congress caters to lobbyists and not constituents. They are more concerned with making sure the lobbyists they made deals with get what they want and not us.
#Beautyeh Wrong, each house is doing what it was elected to do. The Senate was elected democrat so they spend and call our fiscal issue a "revenue" problem. The house was elected republican so they were tasked to reign in the spending and view it as a "Spending" prblem. I don't see how lobbyists have much to do with this and I don't see how this will be resolved. Based on your point of view the other party will be at fault.
"Pelosi said raising the retirement age wouldn't contribute much savings toward an agreement, adding "Is it just a trophy that the Republicans want to take home?' " Really???? Just ask all of the folk who have been let go before age 62 and replaced with a "cheaper" college graduate. Do you really think that the age of termination will miraculously shift upward to accommodate the Social Security Administration? I don't think so. More people will be unemployed between the ages of 50 and 68. You've got to break the "Quicken Loans aka Social Security Trust Fund Habit". The trust fund would be all right if you didn't keep borrowing from it and never paying it back. Kicking the can down the road is no solution. It's a problem for future generations.
godive " I don't see how lobbyists have much to do with this and I don't see how this will be resolved. Based on your point of view the other party will be at fault." Really?? Who has the ear of Congress and the Senate every day that they are in session? Who has been telling Boehner that millions of small businesses will be affected and thousands of jobs will be lost? Who told the President and Boehner yesterday that this needs to be fixed ASAP? Corporate America cannot elect politicians but they sure as hell influence what they decide once they're elected.
The New York Yankees are cutting their budget, corporations are cutting their budgets, American families are cutting their budgets, why not the government? A good place to start would be with the waste identified by Tom Coburn. People should read his book "The Debt Bomb". I know, I know people will say that is a drop in the bucket but you have to start somewhere. Oh yeah I forgot, the government does not have a budget!!
"The New York Yankees are cutting their budget, corporations are cutting their budgets, American families are cutting their budgets, why not the government?" .... why is there a so called fiscal cliff?
@jcinmn - Sorry but 51% of the people voted to let the money keep rolling on. And common sense tells people that raising taxes hurts business and hiring.
Raising the Medicare age and cutting social security hurts the middle class. No wonder the Right is pushing this.
Do not give in Republicans until Obama has huge spending cuts in place (besides gutting the military). $4 billion a day in interest payments on our debt is ridiculous and its compounding. We need to get the ship righted right now. Not a smoke and mirrors policy that Pelosi is talking about. Promising we'll figure out somethings later on down the road is not the answer. 66 million on medicaid and food stamps. This is unsustainable....
