Just an observation: The Yankees seem not to have a catcher and the Twins seems to lack a centerfielder. The Yankees are trying to move Granderson. The Twins would love to move Mauer's contract (although moving Mauer seems an impossible move) but Ryan mentioned no one is off the table. I would trade Mauer for Granderson even up but the Twins could probably even get a prospect or two. Long term the thrifty Twins get rid of a weighty contract and the 2013 Twins would be better (as Mauer to Doumit is less of a gap than Granderson to ...Hicks? Benson?). PR disaster would be reduced as the Twins get a legitimate star in return.
