(article quote)"A previous deal calling for the Vikings to buy four of the Star Tribune blocks for $45 million fell apart in 2007. The team, citing turmoil in the credit markets, backed out of the deal." ---- The credit market being the taxpayers of Minnesota, right? We are the ones who were forced to give money to the owners of the New Jersey Vikings!

Stadium politics aside (I was against it) this is fantastic news for downtown Minneapolis. Death to the surface parking lots! I can't wait to see what Ryan Cos has in store for these parcels. Build, baby build!

The Vikings were going to buy the land in 2007 with their own money. There was no government money involved. After the 35W bridge collapse and the economy starting to go south the Vikings walked away from the deal.

Lets be real. The StarTribune wanted to sell off this land at the highest price. But, the new stadium was to be built closer to the downtown entertainment district mirroring the success of the Twins stadium. So, the StarTribune started writing stories calling the Linden Avenue site "the Basilica site" despite the fact that the Linden Avenue site is all the way on the other side of a major highway, to bring about a false concern for offending our maker in allowing the Vikings, viscous pillagers of the faithfull in earlier civilizations, from being neighbors. Now, the StarTribune can get a better return for their property.
