If I read the story correctly and assuming that it was complete with the necessary essentials, it appears that Thompson wants to transfer to a program where he can get to play rather than sitting on the bench. Doesn't sound like there was any immature ranting about the coach like there was from Barker when he left the football team. Good for him as he appears just to want to play hockey rather than riding the pine, nothing more and nothing less.

Can't blame a kid for wanting to play more than just practices. A follow up story on where he transfers would be interesting.

Good kid, decent player, just couldn't crack the lineup. He would be playing at a lot of other schools. Can't blame him, players just want to play. Games are where the thrill of competition is. Also glad to see both sides handle it with some class....

Going to school to get an education and degree first or going to school to play hockey. As far as someone commenting on Barker, I don't think Lucia lambasted Thompson in front of all the other players on the team, and I didn't know that Thompson was a walk on.

The Gophers have a glut of good D-men so this makes sense. Nobody would want to burn their college eligibility practicing and then not suiting up for the games because there's 8 D-men above you in the lineup. Good luck to Blake, hopefully he can catch on with another team and get to play. It is nice to see both sides handle this professionally and with class. It is nothing more than tough timing for Blake, he came here when we happen to be flush with good D-men. 3 or 4 years ago he'd probably be in the lineup.
