Seeing the photo of the jet trail makes me wonder how he expected the jets to avoid the balloon? Would they see it time? or at all? Can anyone just send up a balloon of that size and have no control over where it goes or comes down? I wouldn't want it getting sucked into my jet engine, nor hit it with a small prop plane.

I imagine you would need to get FAA clearance to do something like this. Since we now know who he is, I can only imagine the FAA will be visiting him soon or already has.
