If you read this article, you will notice that everyone wants "compromise" as long as THEY don't have to give up anything! Hmmm....doesn't sound like compromise to me!
If the media would not have hyped this cliff as a disaster, Taxes would have raised and no one would have noticed it at all. Especially since they claimed they never got it in the first place!
Why won't the media report what the CBO put out. That this country will be weaker in the long run unless they let the cliff occur!
Agree Joe. Even if the House agreed to the tax rate increases, El Presidente' would just up the bid...like with his new Stimulus proposal and now demanding the debt unlimited ceiling be tied to it. The GOP offered new revenue, but no deal. Obama is pushing the country over the cliff...with tax hikes for all. Ho, Ho, Ho. No worries, he will be in Hawaii for the Christmas season.
And my other frustration with the DEMs, taxing the "wealthy" is just symbolic, all politics. The annual deficit is around $1.2 trillion, and the "wealthy" tax hikes bring in around $60 billion. Until the size and scope of government is addressed, we are chasing our tails down a black hole.
If the GOP throws America under the bus for the 2%ers it might hurt at first, but once they get thrown out of office at the mid-terms it will probably be one of the best things to happen to America for a very long time!
hmmm seems to met that even on here, there is no compromise. everyone blaming the other side for this or that. its stupid and childish. I dont really understand the cliff, nor do I really care. What I find funny is that we ALL paid higher taxes during the Clinton era, we did just fine. I agree with most of this article that each side needs to grow up and compromise. I will certainly write all the representatives, (not just one side) and tell them to get a clue, work together. We have all paid in the past before. government is not going away nor are the two bickering parties. Just stop blaming and tell them to work together, because your not any better than they are if you continue to do so. To me the idea that taxing the 2% will destroy jobs is a myth, Can they say they would make new jobs if they werent? Can they guarantee that in writing? I need proof because those same companies were around in the past and will still be here. We the people are not stupid.
ikyabwai, you guys dont get it, the taxes on the 2% means nothing, this is about adressing the countrys deficit issues and actually making meaningfull cuts to Govt programs and addressing sustainability of SS and Medicare. The cliff is scare tactics by the DEMS, its already been shown we can go over the cliff and in the long run be better off.
To me the idea that taxing the 2% will destroy jobs is a myth, Can they say they would make new jobs if they werent?--------Youj don't understand business and taxes do you. If you keep things the same, nothing changes and there is no pressure one way or the other to create or destroy jobs. You RAISE taxes, you increase business expenses and poeple have to be laid off to pay for them.
"If the GOP throws America under the bus for the 2%ers it might hurt at first, but once they get thrown out of office at the mid-terms it will probably be one of the best things to happen to America for a very long time!" - I have to agree with you. Once democrats control everything, and have no one to pass blame to, the voters in this country will see them for what they really are. With no one left to take from, and no one to demonize, they will have no value to their constituents.
