If ANYONE wants to filibuster, they have to talk the talk.
No more just calling in your intent to filibuster to put a stop to even a debate on a bill or nomination!! If you're going to obstruct the majority rule, then you have to do a real filibuster!! It's high time that the GOP obstructionist at the very least have to perform a real filibuster. Never in US history has one party outrageously abused the filibuster. Since the minority couldn't get anything passed, it decided to block the passage of all bills through the filibuster. They can stop legislation or nomination, but this is NOT governing; it's pure party above country.
Last week Mitch McConnel introduced a bill, the Dems agreed to a vote, and then McConnel fillibustered his own bill! the Senate has become a joke. The rules need to change, get your work done senate!
Never in US history has one party outrageously abused the filibuster.---------------Well, since 2004 when the Democrats set the previous record, but other than THAT. but here is another item you didn't point out, that never in the history of the US has a Party outrageously abused the amendment tree like the democrats did last session! Gee, if you don't have input, why would you filibuster?
The purpose of the Filibuster is to ensure that there is some compromise in the congress. Evidently, if you don't compromise, Filibuster's are used! It is a great idea, no matter which party has the majority! It is even MORE important if one party is in the majority of both House and Senate!
The GOP more than doubled the number of times filibustering over any Dem use of it. They filibustered the smallest line item, the most insignificant nomination for filling an office, and scores of bills which they had formerly supported if Obama decided to favor it. They are using the filibuster to thwart governing and cause all-out gridlock. Never has the filibuster been abused in this way and it's unconscionable. They've used it indiscriminately to bring down the function of government and stop even basic progress. The filibuster was never intended to be abused in these ways.
