Let's see; the population is booming in the desert, and people are surprised they're short on water? Hmmmmm.

This pipeline should be fought tooth and nail. I lived in Vegas in the 90's when they started to construct private lake housing developments and fill them with drinking water. These people simply have no common sense. All they see is profit to be made.

Agriculture should also be looked at, especially in California. They are growing some foods which require too much water in relation to how much water they have.

Furure wars will be fought over water not oil.

If you are going to steal from the Mississippi watershed, take it from below New Orleans where there is always enough water to float boats. within the system, we should be filtering, cleaning and storing water from flood stages in the water table where it doesn't evaporate, and where it will eventually flow back into the river basins during a drought, helping to maintain water levels. Sewage water, which comes out of tratment plant cleaner than rainfall should be used for irrigation rather than just released back into the river. That way it grows crops and replenishes the water table. Conserve does NOT mean "don't use it", it means "find ways to use it more than once" on it's trip to the sea. Bill G.

The idea of moving water between watersheds only during times of flooding or other high water MIGHT have some merit. However that would require reservoirs to be able to hold this water during such times. However when it floods in the Midwest it is highly likely the mountains in West would also experience high snow pack and thus reservoirs would already likely be full. And once the pipeline is there what is to stop from pumping at other times ... first with extreme drought, then with moderate drought, and finally, when the areas are built up as in Southwest already and rely on this water to survive they'll start pumping all the time. The Missouri is already so low the Army Corp is refusing to release water to the Mississippi even if it means stopping shipping. Which is as it should be - the water is the Missouri watersheds - and it should first support the Missouri. If there isn't enough left to keep the Mississippi open for shipping so be it.

Absolutely a lawless and unacceptable idea. justtaxnspend is right. Better to allow the west, south, midwest, whereever to live within its' means and understand when you live in a dry area, you have very little water.

Remember, we in the midwest have a right to the sun and low humidity of the SW. LOL, what thinking.
