Knock yourself out, guy, but I'd be careful with those 55-year-olds: the world record in the men's marathon for that age-group is 2:25.

Hey Strib, how about achieving excellence in spelling? "Acheiving excellence: The triathlete"? Really? Then again, I shouldn't be surprised, as I just read this in another of your stories today: "Minnesota Vikings fullback, Jerome Felton, talks about his roll blocking for Adrian Peterson." His muffin top is bowling over linebackers? C'mon. Your paper used to do better. What happened? Have you just given up?

As an Erik's employee who has helped Dave out numerous times at the shop, I can honestly say that he is one of the most fun, outgoing, and kindest customers! I always look forward seeing Dave and our other triathletes head out on rides because it's such a fun and dedicated group! Glad he's getting some recognition!

Dave, This was just the kind of motivational article that I needed to read right now. I'm starting to train for 3 short (sprint) triathlons for the first time and it's really great to hear your story. I'm fortunate to be working with the new head of triathlon training at Lifetime, Lance Leo -- great guy ... super knowledgeable and very helpful to newbies like me and my partner. Best of luck to you ... hope you ROCK Kona! joe

Congrats, Dave. I used to do tri's - before kids. Loved the shorter distances because just when you got sick of one event, it was time to change...Met Matt Haugen back in the late 80's when he was a top tri guy - he's a good guy.
