Another can Timmy kicked down the road. The list gets longer and longer.

Just think, if Timmy hadn't raided the tobacco settlement fund, which was created to fight tobacco use, we'd have the money to fight tobacco use.

No one is talking about paying back the borrowed tobacco fund settlement. I guess the interest will include the end of life care shifted to the public as a result of tobacco related deaths.

We need to further examine the structural problems which precipitated the use of the Tobacco Trust Fund to solve a budget crisis. First, there was a large budget surplus while Ventura was governor. Second, Pawlenty, as House Majority Leader, pushed hard to cut tax rates for the wealthiest Minnesotans. Third, DFLers wanted more spending on infrastructure and education. Fourth, Ventura wanted to return part of the money back to the taxpayers. Fifth, nobody wanted to save for a rainy day/downturn in the economy. Sixth, the economic downturn happens and tricky financial accounting/kicking the can down the road begins. Part of the package is to borrow from the Tobacco Trust Fund to fill the budget deficit. Now is the time for the adults to step up and fix this structural problem once and for all. Raise the tax rates back to where they were before 2001 and modestly cut spending. And when we are back in the black, we need to start saving for another economic downturn/rainy day.

So Marijuana users also incur a plethora of health risks. Increased rate of heart attacks and lung cancer for starters. I wonder if marijuana is legalized if the anti-smoking crowd will take the same stand against marijuana users?

Who was in charge of the senate and house when Pawlenty was governor? Who spent the money? You people are too funny blaming Pawlenty for raiding the tobacco funds when it was the DFL that did it.

Too funny. At the State level, the Governor's not in charge. But at the Federal level the President is?
