Like Randy Moss before him, supremely gifted Percy Harvin presents team with a difficult call. Or is it?

Souhan, you refer to Harvin as Ponder's "Safety Valve"? Shouldn't Harvin be a primary focus in the offense and not the last read safety valve?

It's OK for the Vikings to gamble on Harvin, but their gamble on Ponder is snake eyes and they need to scrap that crapper. The only way for them to improve at the QB position is to move forward without Ponder and admit their first round bust failure. Otherwise, who can trust this regime? Count me all in when Ponder, Spielman, et al are all out.

The answer is to trade him and fast. He has learned all he needed to know in order to be picked-up by a contender team. The New Jersey Vikings are just a feeder team for real NFL teams.

Harvin's the one they can't win without...the MVP. Broom the coach and GM and right this ship now.

Lets hope we learned our lesson with Moss. Harvin is a very rare talent that the Vikes must keep.

"assuming they improve their quarterback play"...Nothing else in this column even matters.

Ponder has played himself to third string. Why is he still starting? He's blown game after game all by himself. He's not ready to lead, as he showed last year. Give him time on the bench until he develops arm strength and pocket presence.

This much is true. Harvin will get injured again and again and have problems with migraines. The only way the Vikings should sign him to a long term extension is if they go out next year and pick up 2 super star wide receivers to go along with him. So it makes it super hard to do that after Peterson signed that mega contract last year. Too hard to stay under the cap. Or isn't their caps anymore? The teams time for making or breaking is next year. Peterson will not last to many more years with how violently he runs. He runs somewhat like Earl the Pearl Campbell did. Campbell was even more violent than Petey is and Campbell didn't last forever. But yes Soughan you are writing what I have been telling you for 2 years now. If the Vikings go out and get 2 deep threat receivers to go with Harvin and Peterson and Rudolph the Vikings offense will be a super offense. Even Webb could step in and run that offense. I'm not sure Ponder can be a great Qb he hasn't shown the ability to throw the deep pass. But with our big and slow wide receivers we have we won't know until we get a couple. Aromadusu is somewhat fast but he is scared to catch the contested passes he is a whimpy receiver.

Webb could develop into a good to great Qb if the Vikings would get 2 great receivers next year. Use their number one pick if their is a dominate one on the board when their pick comes. And also pick up like a Malcom Floyd or another top free agent next year. If they would have done it this year like I told them to our offense would be super. I'm not convinced Ponder is as bad as he has been the last few weeks. He didn't have any receivers last year or this year. Look how Farve got beat up 3 years ago when all of his receivers went down. When Sidney Rice and the rest went down. Harvin when he had his migraine problems that year. Farve was a mess his last year and why? He had no receivers. Yet the year before when he had his weapons at receiver the Vikings should have won the super bowl had New Orleans bounty system been stopped. And also the NFL and its reffs had wanted to make sure New Orleans made it that year following he Katrina storm. Oh yes, Ponder does look a mess right now but so did Farve his last year without any great wide receivers. When the Vikings 98 team played anyone could have been Qb that year with Carter Moss and Reed at wide receivers and Smith at running back. Johnson and Cunninghham both were super but they both could throw a great deep ball something Ponder may lack. Webb has a strong arm and the ability to scramble which if he had 3 great wide recievers may make him great with a arsenal to throw to. So it wouldn't hurt to let Webb play the rest of the way and see how accurate he can become. Face it we will not make the playoffs and only hurt our order in the draft if we try to win one or 2 more games. Even if by some fluke we made the playoffs, do you really think we would go far? Get real.
