My mom died last Christmas Eve from complications of Alzheimer's. Towards the end, she responded most to us singing old songs and Christmas carols, and to her grand daughters' voices. It was painful but we were very glad to be with her. I think the main thing is to keep making contact - music and smells helped a lot. Don't shut off the aging person from your holiday traditions.
