Just to be clear, I'm not going to sign any package that somehow prevents the top rate from going up for the folks in the top 2 percent," Obama said.-----------Now THERE is your prime example of compromise. Republicans gave him exactly what he campaigned on in revenue amounts and that isn't good enough. It has to be HIS way or else! I guess you can't claim you punished the successful unless you have a mantra to throw out. I guess it wasn't about revenue, but about power!
Once again Obama crying from afar, go back to Washington and start the discussion. The GOP gave you the revenue you asked for 2 years ago, now thats not enough, here is his my way or the highway plan. tax the upper 2 % and maybe 4 years down the road when hes gone, some 2% cuts that amout to a penny on every thousand. I say off the cliff.
obama is the driver of the bus and if he can't have things his way, he's gonna drive the bus off the cliff. Kind of a heavy handed way of taking his ball and going home because the others won;t play by his rules. I'm so happy he was elected because if a Republican was doing this, those kool-aid drinkers out there that supported this fraud, would be wailing and gnashing their teeth. Now they have only themselves to blame when they too see their tax bills rise!
Why won't the Star Tribune put out the article that outlines the CBO report that states that going over the cliff would be much, much better in the long run than not going over the cliff. It reports that in the short term, 1-2 year, we will go into a recession, but in 3-5 years, our economy would be much stronger than if we just go along with Obama's demands of taxing the rich and spending more with no cuts!
" Republicans gave him exactly what he campaigned on in revenue amounts and that isn't good enough. " .... smoke and mirrors. They don't specify where the revenue is coming from. It's mathematically impossible to get $800 B in revenue from only eliminating deductions and loopholes for the rich.
drichmn, and pretty tough to address the deficit when Obama keeps spending and his cuts are smoke and mirrors, off the cliff and lets start to heal.
Just wondering if Obama did tax the rich, what would his plans be for the other 357 days of the year after the new tax revenue is used up?
What a financial visionary you people have elected!
"smoke and mirrors. They don't specify where the revenue is coming from." Ironic. Smoke and mirrors from Obama on where and if the cuts are coming. It isn't a compromise if you get everything you want. What a pathetic leader! Turn of the teleprompter, stop pointing your finger and sit down with the other side to COMPROMISE.
We support the president because he is making sense. Republicans aren't fit to govern so he is applying the pressure through the public. Enough of them will cave and do what is best for the country.
It's heartening to know that we have a leader that is willing to trade trillions of dollars of gdp in a gamble to recoup billions to the government in tax revenue all "in the interest of fairness". With a president like this, the country doesn't need enemies.
