Alvarez, now there is a guy with a big ego. Why would he not allow the assistant coach's to handle the duties at the Rose Bowl? After all they have been with the team all year and should get the credit.

"I don't want this to be about me," Alvarez said. I don't believe that for a minute. Having an acting AD coach for one game does nothing long term for the program or the rest of the department.

I can see how big donors and alumni may have forced UW's hand in chosing Alvarez. Not sure if it's a shame or not--I guess we'll know come New Years!

Alvarez was asked to coach by the team's six captains. He built the program. He's won three of these games. Who better than him?

I wish Minnesota had someone like Coach Alvarez, he is a legend and a class act. This should be a great Rose Bowl.

Alavarez was a great coach, but is Wisconsin also admitting at the same time that they have no confidence in their assistant coaches? This comes across as kind of odd in that regard.

The assistants are pretty young and inexperienced ... even for coordinators. Is it fair to the players who worked their butts off to send them out west with a guy that's inexperienced?

Given the situation, this is the best answer available. The team and the fans will be behind Alvarez and a win would create quite a legacy for everyone involved.

"The team and the fans will be behind Alvarez and a win would create quite a legacy for everyone involved." And if they lose it'll create quite a "legacy" of another kind.
