This will be revised upwards like it has been almost every week for the last 2 years. I see last week was revised upward (again) to make this week look better. I'm so tired of these games. The bottom line is that claims need to be below 325K to indicate any kind of growth and above 400K indicates a recesssion.
Seriously? Is that headline really truthful? Of course not. The unemployment claims did not take a "sharp" dive. They are the same as they have been under obama and the title misleads people that do not read the actual article.
I am still without a job, almost two years now. They don't count us on there bottom line.
It makes for a good headline when you only report on the drops and never on the increases.
"This will be revised upwards like it has been almost every week for the last 2 years" .... employment has been revised upward, not unemployment.
"This will be revised upwards like it has been almost every week for the last 2 years"... Perhaps one would be less tired if one were to look at the actual government numbers, where one would find that the numbers have actually been revised downward the past several months.
The Labor Department revised the previous week’s figure up to 395,000, from an initially reported 393,000....they went up slightly. 4 week average also went up.
ccbean: yes, the long term unemployed are counted. This article is about new applications.

This serves well for the low information voters who make decisions based maybe on reading onlyheadlines, if that.
Housing starts are up. Unemployment aps are down. Consumer spending is at a 4 year high and yet, the naysayers abound. Remember that this has been the WORST recession in modern history over shadowed by only the GREAT DEPRESSION! It took 15 years to pull out of the Great Recession. To be on the upward climb in only 4 years despite a do NOthing legislature speaks volumes for this administration.
