Judge sides with preachers' free-speech rights at Duluth event.
Well, hopefully these preachers are not like the ones that I encountered on Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis in 2011 just before that "Rapture" crap - screaming into microphones about homosexuality and prostitution, etc. I'm all for the First Amendment but that's not nice, disturbing people with amplified voices. When one of them approached me and blocked my path, I gave him a piece of my mind about the microphones. He replied, "You are proof that we need to scream louder," or something like that. So I told him, "Your Rapture is not going to happen and you're going to stuck on earth looking for the job that I just came from, and I would appreciate a little quiet on my way home from work."
I wonder where he and his friend with the microphone are now. Hopefully not in Duluth screaming into microphones next to the nice displays.
Just let either of these two folk come within two feet of me :) I will surely give them a piece of my mind. If I wanted to be preached to I would go to church. If I go to see holiday lights I want to see them in peace with out being bombarded by this kind of thing.
It is a public park. Free speech is a right in the constitution. If you dont like it move on. How many tax dollars are being wasted to get a round this? why not use the money for something like roads that got destroyed in the floods this summer.
Ohhh. They want to discuss their faith. I get it. From the headline I was imagining that people were praying to get the heck out of Duluth.
I just growl at them. That usually does the trick.
The park is public property regardless of the language in the contract and therefore the city of Duluth cannot engage in viewpoint discrimination because they don't like the content of the person's speech. Sad that city officials have such a poor understanding of constitutional law or basic First Amendment rights. They have the right to be there and everyone else has the right to ignore them.
