Folks, it's a no-brainer. This mine must not be permitted to ever become a reality. The long-term environmental ramifications that this company will leave to our descendents will never be overcome and the profits that will go the wealthy few will not benefit Minnesotans in the least. It will contribute to the worst environmental disaster scenario that could ever be inflicted upon the BWCA next to dredging it bare.

What? People expected them to announce there was LESS ore in the ground than expected? How would that have helped with the permitting and PR process?

Of course they're going to say it's far more copper than they ever imagined, and that of course, the state could get rich for years to come from this. They need to sell harder now because their chief advocate Chippy Cravaack was voted home to New Hampshire and the company must worry that perhaps the new guy won't be quite so helpful. There is only one sustaining business in NE Minnesota, and that is tourism, based on the pristine quality of the water and land. NE Mn needs economic development, but we don't dare risk any version that might harm the mainstay that directly or indirectly supports most of the area. Copper mining is a huge threat to the economics of the NE MN, not an exciting source source of future riches.

Started thinking about the comment that this will be an economic juggernaut for the state. Really, that's actually the company quote? Interesting. Definition of juggernaut: A juggernaut in colloquial English usage is a literal or metaphorical force regarded as mercilessly destructive and unstoppable. Uh, yeah. They said it, not us.
