What a great day to see the dems and GOP working together to do the countries business.
So.... how much less is this budget than last year's?
Just Too Too Much.....Knock Off $100 Billion and Then 'Ya Can Start Fine Tuning More Cuts....
World War II Is Over, The Cold War is Over....
Let's Bring Some of The Far Flung Troops Home..
Let Japan and Others Pay For Some of Their Own Defenses....
The military budget should be cut by 70%.
We need more money because Obama has us involved in Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, and Egypt thanks to his liberal ways.
It's a shame voters don't know this.

However, taking away 70% of the military budget would be like taking the lock off your front door, or taking the door off the vault at your bank. Once (defense) is taken away, tell me what you'd have left?
hewonwelost: you definitely need to go back and read this article again and concentrate real hard when you get to any mention of McCain and foreign involvement plans. And then their is the Bush era wars of choice; he and Cheney never met a war they didn't like. And the last time I checked, all of them were republicans. No, Obama has kept us out of a few conflicts. If I have one beef with him, it is not getting out of Afghanistan immediately after Bin Laden was killed. Nothing we can do in one or two more years is going to make any difference in this part of the world.
Did anyone else notice that the military budget focused mainly on foreign countries? When are we going to take care of Americans and American soldiers first?
So is Gitmo going to stay open forever? I think this is an area where we can save money. Close it and send those that need further detention to American prisons, we are already paying for those facilities anyway.
@just1oldgoat, I provided him the freedom to say that too...and he's right. You have no idea where that money goes, do you? 30 years of service should have revealed to you the MASSIVE hemmoraging of money and WASTE of resources the military espouses. The military budget MOSTLY goes to base upkeep, entitlements, healthcare, and the industrial complex. VERY, VERY little of that money actually goes to operations during a normal peacetime cycle. So why spend it? And this is coming from an Iraq special operations combat vet...the amount of entitlements the government pays 100% of the cost for on behalf of military members is obscene. Housing and subsistence allowances, tax-exempt pay for combat zones, FREE healthcare, free travel, subsidized lodging around the world, etc... Your pension you earned, but getting it at the moment of retirement from service in your 40s or 50s is ridiculous. AD retirees should wait until they're 60 like Reservists/Guardsmen do. Think about how much money THAT would save INSTANTLY. I certainly do not disrespect a 30-year vet's service (I've got about 10 so far), but I definitely find your tone offensive. You are no better than I am. We all serve/served the same ideals, and for you to seemingly judge a citizen for saying that the military doesn't need or DESERVE nearly $1T budget is wrong. Because it doesn't. Nothing the military does warrants that kind of budget.
