Christian Ponder: Man on an island

The Vikings quarterback struggled mightily against Green Bay, and that's prompting a big question: Is he the right man for the job?

Christian Ponder has been given a generous amount of time to prove that he's the right man for the job. Whether he is or isn't, it's time that the Vikings Front Office and Coaches apply Einstein's definition of insanity to on-field decisions about his playing time: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results isn't working. It doesn't take a genius to to see that.

Joe Webb probably isn't a no. 1, but Ponder for sure isn't.

There's absolutely no excuse to not pull him if starts stinking up the place against the Bears this Sunday, no excuse whatsoever!!! The players reluctantly bought all this mumbo jumbo from Frazier about team unity and all that good stuff, c'mon man, AP ran for 210 yds and we lost the game. The most upsetting part is that is not the first, second, nor third time this season, this an horrendous pattern that has literally cost us the season, whether Frazier defend Ponder all that he can. NO!!! you have other players who want to win, when is enough???? Didn't we go through this same scenario with T-Jack???? aren't we sick of making excuses for inept untalented QB's???? This is the NFL, you don't perform you get benched, period!!! This is not high school football where the coach takes the kid and takes him under his wing and protects like some father figure, no this is the NFL. These players are getting paid big bucks to play a Big Boys game, there's no room for not wanting to hurt your QB's confidence or feelings!!!! Let's look at Jim Harbaugh with the 49ers, agree with him or not, he made the move to bench Alex Smith because he wants the best for his team!!! That's the difference between Frazier and a good coach!!!! We'll never amount to anything as long as Frazier is head coach, much less now with this poor excuse of a QB he wants to shove down this team's throats!!!!!

In answer to the question, is Ponder the right man for the job? NO.

Frasier says: "We believe Christian is our No. 1." The fans say: "We believe Christian in No 2." Of course, that's based on the sample size.

Ponder NEVER was an NFL caliber QB. He wasn't even that good in college.

I agree that Ponder should start, but if he is ineffective he should sit. This live or die with Ponder mentality will kill free agent signings such as Harvin and others who want not only to win but to also get good stats for contract negotiations. How soon can Alex Smith get here? Or maybe we should reconsider building that new stadium...

I'm watching the MNF game and just so impressed with Robert Griffin, that's a winner of a QB!! That's talent, not this we have to learn at the expense of the whole team bunch of ?????? That's coaching people, you wonder why we're where we're at, look at the who's coaching us and his totally inept comments about Ponder being our number #1. He's just clueless, we're so doomed it's pitiful!!! For the exception of 2009 solely because of Brett Favre, we've become a horrendous team in the Ziggy era!!!!!

We should all hope that Ponder can get his confidence together. He's got the physical attributes, he's a smart guy, and passionate as well, but he's obviously just way over-thinking every move right now. I'm not quite sure why so many of you are so excited about burying Ponder. The kid's had a great attitude the whole way, and it's not like we're in a position to draft an Andrew Luck. We need lots of help in other areas. Bottom line - there is no good that comes from Ponder failing.
