Souhan: Bench Ponder and you just might win that game

Vikings officials are committed to Christian Ponder as their current and future starter. Sunday, they failed to react to their team's new reality, which could have cost the team a playoff berth.

This loss is ALL on Ponder. What a disgusting effort. Peterson was a beast, but Ponder threw it all away (again). I am tired of hearing about Spielman's three year plan and watching this garbage QB play every week. It's clear that Spielman bet on the wrong horse with Ponder. Be a man Rick--admit the mistake and then go find a better QB or hit the bricks.

C'mon, Jim. I know you have inches to fill, but how about at least trying to see the forrest through the trees? Ponder played a bad game today and the loss fall mostly on him. But last week he was solid and with a decent receiving the corps the Vikings would have beat the Bears and would still be 7-5 with an extra division win. Tampa game I watched in person and receivers refused to get open for Ponder. He's a decent QB and at the very least should be given the rest of this season before evaluation starts. Is this team isn't good enough to make the playoffs with Ponder, they're not good enough to go anywhere in the playoffs with Webb. Evaluate now to build a better future.

Ponder is the second coming of T-Jack and that ain't good. He needs to be put on a very short leash next week. If he continues to stink he needs to get pulled and pulled early.

Vikes just couldn't do enough to stop the Ponder-to-Burnett connection.

Souhan is right on target. I'm resigned to the fact that Speilman and Fraser are going to stick with Ponder for the rest of this season, but not pulling him for Joe Webb just gave away our season. The rest of the team did everything they needed to to to win, with the exception of the wideouts, and Peterson deserves better than what Ponder showed us today - or didn't show us. What a total waste of a great team effort and this loss is on Frasers shoulders for not doing the right thing for the team.

Hi! Isn't it amazing how well most of the QBs taken in the same year as Ponder, many of them taken well after the Vikes took Ponder, have grown and played well, while our boy just goes backward. I know we have stiffs for WR, but even if we are fortunate to draft another Moss next spring and he can get open on every play, with Ponder at QB one of 4 things will happen on those plays, an under thrown ball, an over thrown ball, an interception as Ponder tries to force the ball to the TE despite triple coverage on the TE,or he will hold the ball too long and take a sack! Time to admit the mistake and start someone else!

FINALLY! Someone with the guts to suggest that Ponder be benched, even for a half. I had hope at the beginning of the season that a full off season program would help him to hone his skills. It is all too apparent that is not the case. Ponder has LOST at least 4 games with his inability to read defenses AND to get the ball to his receivers. It's true that the receivers shoulder a large part of the responsibility, but it was obvious from today's game that he isn't even waiting for them to GET open (consider the number of times he tucked and ran). Maybe he shouldn't be "replaced," but he should be sent a message that sub-par play will land you on the bench. Honestly, he has done NOTHING to warrant the kind of "hands off" approach that Frazier has taken. Sit him down and let him learn that he IS replaceable unless he picks up his play!

Playing behind a solid offensive line? That's one of the most moronic observations I've seen all year. The Vikings have two good offensive linemen, and the rest are well below NFL average. None of Charlie Johnson, Fusco or Loadholt could start on any other team in the league. All three need to be replaced as soon as possible. No young quarterback could win behind this bunch, not even Luck, RG3 or Kaepernick. There's no consistency in their pass protection, so Ponder has happy feet, and he'll be nervous in the pocket until that line is fixed.

J_dubya, have you been watching this year, or last year's games? Ponder continues to single-handedly lose games. This after 20ish starts. Yes, his receivers are awful but even when they are open he makes inaccurate throws. Even the 10 yard stuff that every NFL QB throws accurately. Throw in the fact he has ZERO arm strength and that he bolts from the pocket way too fast - he's a waste of space. How long do Ponder supporters need for this guy to work out? Three full years of losing? Four, Five? If it were ANY other coach in the NFL (that had a spine to stand up to his GM) the Ponder experiment would be over. The guy is posting sub 50 QB ratings every other week now, with the best running game in the league. How is that even possible?

Jim...Bench Ponder and they might just win ANY game...the guy is as much of a disgrace as the coaching staff. anything over 5-10 yds...it's a miss...not even close...GO VIKES!!!!
