When all is said and done these individuals have done little to shape the future and have little impact. None has made an outstanding contribution -- that's the nature of the entertainment business. Instead of continually honoring and giving awards to entertainers, I think we need to honor and award scientists and doctors. Those folks actually do have a tremendous impact.
Letterman got the award for helping Obama get re-elected. I used to like his show but he has become a politician not an entertainer. Won't watch him anymore. He uses his show as a political platform.
oooooh, the Bitter-Bettys are trolling here in force tonight. this is NOT the Nobel Peace Prize awards, nor the Correspondents Dinner, and Honorees are selected from the board of trustees, NOT the president. the purpose is clear: "The Honors recipients recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts-whether in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television-are selected by the Center's Board of Trustees." they always mix it up to represent a broad spectrum of American culture. personally, i've enjoyed the tradition over the years and look forward to seeing the broadcast.
Pinky, you are correct about who picks the awardees. However, these are the cultural heroes of the left. The vision of the board of trustees=the president's.
Goon of the Left Letterman contributed to the performing arts?
