It seems to me this is a very subjective field with a risk of labeling or rewarding a minority of young people with a nebulous "medical disorder" that may consist merely of temporary growing pains, & can even be counterproductive to healthy mental growth & social development. More attention & excuses for bad-behaving so-called "victims" or patients. It also raises suspicions of unnecessary publicly-funded counterproductive positions (jobs) for counter-productive "therapy" & treatment of imaginary conditions. In other words...some scamming here that distracts from basic solid education. Hopefully the recent change is an honest & real step in the right direction. Pull all heads out of the sand.

Finally. There are too many parents who have used the Asperger's "diagnosis" in a Münchausen Syndrome by Proxy manner (yes, I know one). There is no benefit to children to diagnose poor parenting as a disease.

Someday, hopefully soon we will be able to look back at the horrific scientific over labeling, over diagnosis, and over medicating of the public. Every kid has a disorder and all of them can be cured by a big pharmaceutical company's magic pill. Parents are their own worst enemy because they insist that their child is different and really suffers from these ailments. While mental and physical ailments obviously occur and need to be treated The United States is off the charts overboard.

As a mental health expert, I, along with the rest of the mental health community, applaud this decision. In recent years it has become increasingly apparent that Asperger's "syndrome" has been used as a stand in for behavior issues resulting from external pressures, not from any organic problem.

AS A special education teacher and mother of a son with severe Dylsexia ...I find it crucial that this disorder is recognized as a SEPARATE entity and is NOT labeled in ONtario Canada as a LEARNING DISABLITY.My son has not been able to get the learning he needs.LD special ed services are NOT and will not provide teaching that is apprpriate or even comes close to adressing DYSlexia. The schools in Ontario do NOT Teachers trained to TEACH children like my son!THe courses exsist her in Ontario too...There is requirement by the ministry to make the Public schoolstrin their special ed teachers .Why would there be if it is not recognized by the board or the Psychlogist to write DYSLEXIA on their reports!...It must be made law that dyslexia is regonzed as a sperate entity and not just tagged with Learning disablities,,,as it is different! EVEN more crucial are the school Boards Pyschologists...My son was misdiagnosised as MILD INTELLECTUALLY delayed...this is Horrendous...I had to get him reassessed and the Province of ONT...Still does not have it in there spectrum to have DYSLEXIA written on his OSR...this needs to be CHANGED!!!...until DYSLEXIA is recognized there will be NO formal training or funds alloted for students like my son! He has not been in a school for over a year as this travsity has made him extremely sick....How many times can a person be told he FAILS ..before his self esteem is shattered and they break...I am asking all Parents to make themselves heard ...EDucation MUST be changed in the province of ONT ..and canada..Every child has right to have an education and should not be made Terribly sick from our education system...The Moore case in British columbia is only a small out cry for change....what about the parents that do not have the funds to Private educated their DYSLEXIC child,,,like the BC case that won their APPEAL in our supreme COURTS...should they be left at home like MY son with no education?..A PArent crying out for change!

As a person who has a highly autistic nephew and one that has been diagnosed mild, I would like to state that my second nephew suffered from bad parenting. Sounds mean, my sister loves her kids BUT she did not punish, correct or act as a mother and she made excuses. When he was in the company of certain people he was fine, HE KNEW his mom would let him get away with crap. He went to live with his father and is a fine normal child without the "behaviors" that were claimed before. Everyone is diagnosed with something it seems and the diagnoses need to slow down, honestly.
