Late 1800s through mid-1960s: Bounties offered as wolves become an increasingly useful political tool, and they are destroyed in more and more of their remotest territory where they pose no threat whatsoever. 1974 - an approximately 4 decade tradition of not shooting the wolves is established. Other than poaching, they are allowed to establish their packs, boundaries, individual responsibilities towards each other. The natural state for wolves, avoiding other predators but not being preyed on themselves, as they are not evolved to be, unlike their own prey. May 2012 - attacking wolves again becomes an increasingly useful political tool, and they are destroyed including their remotest territory where they pose no threat whatsoever, and again, wolf packs will be able to depend on their members anymore. The old, young, healthy, sick, wise, yet untaught will all be scythed a quarter or a third of a time out of most of those societies, they can forget about being able to build even as stable a pack as their 6-year lifespan allows.

I would very much like to commend the State of Minnesota on it's fine job of wolf managing the wolf population of our state. I would also state that the wolf hunt and trapping season are a very useful tool in the continued management of the wolf population.
