Nice of Russo to show the women some attention, that's long overdue. This so called "state of hockey" should be given the lady's a little more love. Folks should give this team a chance. Its better level of play then it was maybe just 10 yrs ago. And most important, the Gopher Womens Hockey team are WINNERS! Get out & see them Minnesota. A team you can be very proud of.

Well, let's see. Outside of a paragraph or two reporting their games, they get little attention in the papers. Until this article how much attention has the Strib given the program? As a fan of the continually top 15 ranked volleyball program, I understand full well the frustration with the media coverage given to women's athletics (other than basketball) despite the fact they are successful and exciting. Look at the sports calendar in the Strib - the women's hockey game today is listed under "Other Sports". Maybe the question should be "Why doesn't the Star Tribune cover successful women's programs more?"

After reading this article, I am sure glad that we have such a great hockey team. I wish I lived closer (plus a disability) so I could attend their games. All I can say, is Go Gophers!! I will be following you in the newspaper here at the Startribune..

A really fine team, but I confess to not finding it all that exciting to go watch a team just murder their opponents by large margins. And it is not becuase I don't like women's teams: I regularly support (financially and in-person) a Gopher women's program that gets far less attention than do the hockey and volleyball programs, despite the fact that is regularly ranked in the top 25 in the nation in a sport where there are over 300 Division I teams.

Does the University charge an admission to watch ladies hockey? If the games are free they really should do better than they do. I personally have no interest in watching, but I hope they get better fan support.

A talented team is only as good as their coaching (ask Don Lucia). This team has it all. Back to back national championships are on the horizon.
