He remains coaching wrestlers on his terms and in his own extraordinary way.

Wow. Two coaches in 60 years. The U has become an elite program fueled by local talent and a dedicated staff. Thanks J and the staff for always demonstrating your purpose and dedication to the sport.

My 14 year old son has grown as a wrestler and more importantly as young man because J Robinson. While attending his camps, he has learned the importance of goal setting and how to achieve those goals. Through current and former wrestlers who have taken the time to coach and mentor him (especially Chad Erickson, Jake Avre, Mac Reitter Jayson Ness, Tony Nelson and Scott Schiller) he has great examples to follow.

Great article. We need more like him, I think.

Progress in any endeavor is made by the people who will not accept the status quo, but by people who inquire, learn, and push. J is that kind of guy. We need a lot more like him at the U. And I'm not just talking about athletics. From the top down there is way too much invested in the status quo. If ever an organization needed zero based budgeting it is the U. Every program needs to be evaluated.

He complained for years about being underpaid. Is he finally resigned to never getting the big bucks like tubby or kill? Eventually most folks cave after years of futility. But than he will have a nice U retirement package with sweet benefits?

First, congratulations, J R., for your dedication and leadership. By leadership I mean, knowing what needs to be done despite all that goes on around you. Which brings me to: Second, sounds to me like the U could benefit from your abilities and philosophies--"If you are in it to 95% and those above you to 40%, you'll never exceed 40%"--at the A.D. position. Your statement just quoted explains the rapid departures of Lou Holz and Brenda Freese from Dinkytown better than anything I've read over the years. Please keep the U in mind should the opportunity arise for a new A.D.

If J had been hired as football coach 30 years ago The U would have at least one if not many national championships, even tho J is not a Football guy. It is called leadership.
