I remember watching her on TV growing up, especially sneaking up the stairs and peeking through the railings on Saturday nights after I was supposed to be sleeping. She was an amazing comedian! It still makes me smile just to see her picture today. Honestly, though, I had no clue about the Gilda Club. I spend a LOT of time reading the paper and watching the news and don't recall anything about this group with a wonderful mission. When I saw the article I thought it was about some sort of group where comedians meet to work on perfecting their craft. Maybe the name change isn't completely out of order.
I do love Gene Wilder's take on how she would react to it! How amazing would it have been to have been friends with that crazy couple!
If they're going to start taking people's names off of charitable organizations because younger people don't know who they are, should we be expecting name changes for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Will Rogers Institute, the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation?
Really, if they're afraid people won't realize it's a cancer support organization, then add "Cancer Support" to the name, don't remove Gilda.
