We need infrastructure and it has to be paid for. We need to to invest in roads, bridges, and mass transportation for Minnesota to be a leader in the 21st century. I'll gladly chip in to make Minnesota better.

Sure raise the gas tax so they bring in an estimated $15 Million, that's a bad plan if I ever saw one. They will most likely fall way short of that goal because of their short-sightedness. Don’t they realize there are more electric and hybrid cars on the road today and in 20 years it will increase? In turn lower fuel consumption and fewer taxes collected; however we’ll have the same if not more cars on the road wearing them out. They need to come up with a better plan then raising the gas tax. They are going to have to get the extra funding from vehicle registrations or some other new creative method. I would not like it, but a good suggestion would be a higher tax or impose a road surcharge on new tires by calculating the estimated life (mileage) of the tire. For example, an estimated 60,000 mile tire @ 0.0025 a mile would add a surcharge of $150 to the tire. Yes the fee is very steep; however it’s a good way to determine road usage with today’s fuel efficient Vehicles and you can’t really cheat the system either. Since Electric and hybrid cars use little to no fuel, they still need tires that will wear out. Just my two cent’s on this subject.

strbcensrsux "this is what happens when you allow one party to have all the power. Thanks democrats" YOU'RE WELCOME! Instead of whining about the money needed to repair and maintain our infrastructure stop and think about how much each tire costs and new struts cost on your SUV. These pot-holes we've been experiencing due to lack of proper road maintenance cause blown out tires and premature failure on your suspension system. I'd rather pay a little bit more each year than a lot more to repair the damage caused by bad roads.

What? A long term financing plan for Minnesota transportation infrastructure? A hard annual budget for 20 years? How can one get favors for political friends if you can't make shifts of rail lines and roadways and make up budgets as you go?... And the cost!! This could cost taxpayers a Trillion dollars over a thousand years! -- (ok, sorry I preempted the GOP standard line - I was just so shocked that I got carried away). A plan? A real plan that sets a long term budget? Amazing.

So...where's the talk about a electricity road tax for those with electric cars? After all, last time I checked they still run on the roads, not in the air. It could match the new gas tax dayton's proposing, you know, to make it "fair".

Well, kids, you asked for it. Now we'll see just who Markie defines as the rich guy to soak for all of this.

If we need more money for mass transit, then raise the prices of mass transit - don't tax the majority of the state's taxpayers who don't use it! Many more taxpayers use roads and bridges than mass transit. If the mass transit users aren't willing to pay higher fares, then that's a strong message that mass transit is not a good value. Here we go again - the DFL tax and spend for the few!
