A big step in the right direction!
I see no reason why one or two countries can prevent another from becoming a state. Israel and the U.S. have to learn they are not the only people in this world. Enough already.
The US political administration should be ashamed of itself for trying to block self determination of a people, it is basicly working against one of the founding principals of our own nation.
The Charter of the United Nations, of which both the United States and Israel are member sttes, and the resolutions of the UN Security Council, are legally binding upon them, and the votes of the General Assembly indicate a strong agreement amongst the members that its actions are enforceable in the Internationl
Court of Justice. It is a paramount construct of the UN that all peoples on this Earth have the right to self-determination, and that right includes the right to statehood. Neither the U.S. or Israel has the right to prohibit the Palestinian people to statehood and recognition as such by the body of the UN, the General Assembly. It should be noted that Israel has and does to this day prohibit the presence for any purpose the military forces of the UN on Israeli soil. Every action taken by Israel since 1967 flies in the face of their membership in the UN, and yet they claim to be able to dictate to others what will or will not happen with regard to the Palestinian people. Israel does not have that right. It should also be noted that the rights of the Palestinian people to peace and security are not commencrate with the whim or desires of the people of Israel, and the same is true of the Palestinian people. In any case, Israel does not have the right to dictate to Palestine what it can or cannot do in terms of its pursuit of statehood.
It is ridiculous to ask Palestinians to admit Israel (Occupation country) as a Jews state while there are 5 millions Palestinians (Muslim and Christian) live behind Israel boarder, and also Israel don't want to stop build Jews settlements on the Palestinians land.
A sad day when a terrorist state who still demand the destruction of Israel one of our allies are formally recognized Well guess what the knife cuts both ways better start demanding an end to daily rocket and mortar fire, suicide bombers , hate speech and having as your mouthpiece a terrorist group leadership. See people elections have consequences and right now we are totally disrespected by the Arab world. We have a fractured foreign policy and failed utterly to provide Any leadership while this so called arab spring rose up and now a mini Iran has arisen in Egypt to top it all off, simply pathetic. Add to that the fact that we have allowed sovereign soil to be the place of murder in Benghazi. Should I stop now or need I say more?
The US loves to lecture other countries on democracy and self-determination, yet when it comes to Palestine, we object to their RIGHT to determine their own future and instead support the pariah state of Israel, which steals other peoples' land and behaves aggressively towards it's neighbors on a near constant basis. Shame on us.
A comment was made by the Israel ambassador that the U.N. can't break the 4,000-year-old bond between the people of Israel and the land of Israel. Does this mean there is a 4,000 year old bond between me and Germany (and the rest of Europe), where my ancestors used to live?
The U.S. ended up with egg on its face as a result of this. Support Israel, but do it in a way that also recognizes that the Palestinians have lived in that land for just as long. Support the Palestinians ability to become free from essentially "living on the reservation" in the West Bank.
Johnmcfadden: You are blessed to have such a short memory that allows you to complain about the Arab Spring. Do you remember why we spent a trillion dollars and thousands of American lives in Iraq? It was to enable the blossoming of democracy in the middle East. The Arab Spring is what blossoming democracy looks like and if you have a problem with that or how we are viewed in the Arab world you can trace it all back to Bush & Cheney and the most ill-conceived foreign policy in the last 100 years. You also complain of Benghazi when the errors and omissions of the Iraq war run up dwarf Benghazi in every respect. Need I say more?
The UN is a joke and we need to quit funding it. Not only is there a lot of anti-Semitism with these leftists, they want to stick their nose in American business and ban guns here against our Constitution.
