Oh NOOOOooooooo! Global warming is going to flood humanity out! Whatever shall we do? Not to worry, citizens, obama will lower the tides and save us!

Lamest response to gathering crises: "Oh, the earth has heated up and cooled down many times before." Why is it lame? Because the earth has NEVER had done to it what's being done now. We in the U.S. burn 88 million barrels of oil a day -- 29 trillion barrels per year. Throw in other nations' oil use, and the burning of seven billion tons of coal a year and you get an overheated atmosphere and warning signs obvious to all but Fox faithful.

There is no such thing as global warming. The oil company-owned Republican Party told me so, and they don't lie. Every scientist on planet earth is just lying to us so they can push their liberal agendas.

"""We in the U.S. burn 88 million barrels of oil a day -- 29 trillion barrels per year.""".....I assure you the highly educated viewers of Fox news wont believe those numbers. 29 trillion per year? Wow........

Our countries debt is minor compared to this problem but the GOP and the faux news crowd denies that this problem even exists. 50 years from now they will look back and say, "the arctic melted in 2012 and they did nothing???"

We should all be thankful that our time here coincides with one of the earth's warming phases. At some point in the future, our descendants will be staring down the spectre of ice sheets once again forming in the northern latitudes before beginning their inevitable trek to the south. They won't be able to tax their way out of that either.

"DOHA, QATAR-- An area of Arctic sea ice bigger than the United States melted this year, according the U.N. weather agency, which said the dramatic decline illustrates that climate change is happening "before our eyes." .................. (cue image of Chicken Little running madly back and forth...) Is the sky really falling, folks? Just eight weeks ago the following was presented in Forbes: "Antarctic sea ice set another record this past week, with the most amount of ice ever recorded on day 256 of the calendar year (September 12 of this leap year)." Newton's Third Law has applications in areas other than just the motion of objects, it seems. In any case, owatonnabill is thrilled at the prospect of (as was apparently the case as recently as 400 years ago) shipping lanes being opened THROUGH the arctic ice rather than around it. Cheaper oil and commodities is just one of the advantages. Palm trees in Owatonna? Peach orchards in Saskatchewan? Sounds of "Guantanamara' echoing softly in the background as people laguidly stroll about and expose flesh to the tanning rays of the sun on Park Point in Duluth in February? Could happen, folks.

Aside from Ed Begley Jr, AGW enthusiasts do little but make shrill pleas for government mandates, all the while practicing rampant hypocrisy themselves. Do you need government mandates before doing the "right" thing? Why don't you voluntarily impose the austerity measures on yourselves? I mean, this is a disaster of epic proportions unfolding before us with the future of mankind hanging in the balance, right? Or do you feel that only "other people" need to make sacrifices?

goferanz: multiply 88,000,000 (barrels per day) by 365.
