Obama will no doubt tell Romney elections have consequences and its his way or the highway. That philosophy worked so well in his first 4 years in office.....

It is tradition that a winning incumbent president invites the defeated challenger to meet at the White House some time after the election. Nothing unusual about a meeting like this.

Umm Truckman, Romney lost so even if he had good ideas, which I never heard once throughout his campaign,he doesn't get a say. Deal with it. I suspect they'll stick to just eating as again, never heard one good idea.. I wonder if he'll bring a gift?!

Republicans are constantly criticizing Democrats for not "reaching across the aisle" when in fact, the reason progressives are upset at Obama is that he reached across "too much, too often," with nothing in return. I hope in his second term he listens to what Republicans want and then follow the will of the people who elected him.

Truckman 182: your response is exactly the problem - lack of civility & free exhange of ideas searching for common ground. I find this news encouraging. Contribute to the solution instead of the problems. Screeching at each other is past history.

Timothy Geithner, the current Treasury Secretary, has agreed to stay in his position through Jan. 21 (i.e., after the inauguration). And regardless of what you think of his other politics, Mr. Romney is an experienced businessman and widely recognized as being the superior choice on economic issues. Mr. Obama has also said he wants to be bi-partisan (and was originally going to nominate a republican to Treasury Secretary). So, if Mr. Obama is serious, let's see him ask Mr. Romney to serve the United States by agreeing to become the next Treasury Secretary.

Cory089: Romney as Treasury Secretary? All he would do is give gifts to his Wall Street buddies.

This meeting is too important to be met with sarcasm. Let's hope some common ground can be found.
