I have a feeling that this administration is going to use the unchecked power of the EPA to make a lot of "change" that we were not aware was on the agenda. It scares me that oil, coal and natural gas are all targets of the EPA. If they push prices higher on the masses for their "greater good" philosophy we could see a big reaction by wall street and slip right back into the recession that we are barley clawing our way out of...

BP's commercials are hilarious. Some voice says that BP has: committed to returning the area to its former state, that BP has contributed such-and-such super high dollar figure to spend on the area, and that tourism has gone up. As for the first two, they are legally obligated to those! As for the third (the last), tourism probably went up from 10 people to 20 people (a DOUBLING in tourism).

So you folks are saying that tax payer money should continue to go to a corporation that pleaded guilty to felonious criminal actions and massive incompetence?

What is so hard to comprehend about "no new government contracts?" How will preventing BP (a foreign company trading in a world commodity) from expanding operations with the U.S. government change the price of gas? Will all other oil companies (which do not have the abysmal track record of BP) forgo the opportunity to take up those contracts? Will BP suddenly close up all their U.S. operations, take their ball and go home to the UK?

Please think before lending voice to the hatred of all things Obama.

BP announced earlier in November that it will plead guilty to manslaughter, obstruction of Congress and other charges and pay a record $4.5 billion in penalties to resolve a Justice Department probe of the disaster. Attorneys for BP and the Justice Department plan to meet with a federal judge in December to discuss a date for pleading guilty. Enough already, how much is enough? I like notforward's take on all this issue.

Just keep punishing the capitalists. $4.5billion was just the beginning!! Afterall - did you know this company is in business for Profits!!! Who in there right mind would work for just a group. Corporations aren't really "people" afterall. Why don't we all just work for the government afterall they can just give us the money for free. Better yet, I am quitting my job so I can sit back and let the profits roll in!! Go EPA! go Obama! and if you all don't like it you are racists!

I have a client living in Houma, LA and he is a crab fisherman and he hasn't received a penny from BP as to what the oil spill did to his business.

Criminal background checks are standard practice for many businesses prior to hiring someone. I don't see why anyone would object to the same standards being used when hiring out federal contracts, especially when BP just pleaded guilty to 11 felony counts of misconduct or neglect relating to the death of 11 workers, one misdemeanor count under the Clean Water Act, one misdemeanor count under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and one felony count of obstruction of Congress. If an individual pleaded guilty to these charges it would be completely acceptable to not hire them for a position...nothing wrong with being consistent if corporations insist on personhood protection under the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution.
