I can't say that I blame them. I think if you are going to recognize a country as a country there have to be some elements to it that make it a country. Right now, Palestine is no more of a country than Somalia is. It's a region ruled by warlords who enforce their will partly by force and partly by bribes. But they rule mostly by playing on the prejudices of the people who they keep in poverty by spending all the aid money they get on weapons instead of on improving the lot of the people, then blaming the poverty of the people on the very nations that give the aid money (and then attacking the citizens of those countries).
Palestine will need to be re-constituted as part of the solution. But it will have to be a Palestine with a government that is more concerned with the welfare of its own people than with destroying a neighboring country.
Update: Upon learning of Germany's opposition, France promptly surrendered.
