Dems, if the Repubs are willing to move off their no tax increase stance, you HAVE to move on no spending cuts. The Repubs have been ripped for their stance and I applaud them for willing to move. You need to do the same. And, when reviewing tax cuts, think outside the country, too. Maybe we don't need to provide so much foreign aide to countries which, for the most part, equals bribing governments.
larrymick, I agree with you up to the final point about foreign aid. Foreign aid amounts to a miniscule portion or our overall budget, and frankly, it's money very well spent. In addition to being as American as apple pie, bribing foreign governments to act in our best interest is a heckuva lot more efficient and less expensive than sending troops half-way around the world for a decade to secure these same interests.
So here it is. The wealthy must make up the entire difference with revenue increases because the Democrats are taking spending cuts off the table. Don't touch SSI or Medicare, Medicaid and the Dems can't find $3 of spending cuts for every $1 of revenue increases.
"and the Dems can't find $3 of spending cuts for every $1 of revenue increases" == I'm sure most, if not all, of that $3 could be found in the military budget especially as the Cons want to continue spending money on systems the Pentagon doesn't even want.
Or the government could bargain for pharmaceuticals the way Blue Cross or any other insurer does...in other words, change the law to allow them to do it. Don't worry, the pharma profits aren't going to fund research into preventing malaria or dengue fever...rather the next Viagra or the like.
Cut funding to PBS, planned parenthood, foreign aid.
@firefight41 - You do know to the Dems those are considered draconian cuts? According to Buttles, it would be better to gut the military than to make the cuts you suggested. When they say $3 cuts to every $1 of increase revenue, it means they will cut $3 of the things you value and never a cut to the things they value. This is why we have no adults in the room in DC. None of them are willing to put America 1st. Why must we supply foreign aid when we have our own homeless and needy people? Why are we borrowing $1Trillion a year money from China to provide foreign aid to other countries? The war in Afghanistan should end and bring our troops home. There is nothing over there left to do. The madness in DC needs to stop.
Nothing got done in the last 4 years, so do we think anything will get done in the next month? HHHHAAAAAaaaahhhhaaaaaa, heeehehhheeh, hahdhhahahhaha, hehahaha, heehaa!!!!
Pass HR 1125--Debt Free America Act. Problem over.
"I'm sure most, if not all, of that $3 could be found in the military budget especially as the Cons want to continue spending money on systems the Pentagon doesn't even want."*********So, in essence, what you're saying here is that it would suit you just fine if all the cuts that take place came out of our Defense Dept. budget, but that we could leave the current "legacy" costs in place (Medicare, Medicaid, SS) even though they amount to over 60% of what the government currently spends our tax dollars on. Have I got that right so far?
