Seems to me that by 2020, the BTN network will be the Big Twenty Network rather than the Big Ten Network.

Rutgers is a minor blip on the NYC media market. There are more rooters for Notre Dame in that market compared to any other school.

Some good points made by the editorial board. As a long time Gopher fan, I'm in the traditionalist camp, but it seems that not expanding would put the Big Ten at risk of losing teams like the Big East has, and losing revenue as a result.

FrankL - [Rutgers is a minor blip on the NYC media market. There are more rooters for Notre Dame in that market compared to any other school.] *** Well that's good because Notre Dame is going to join the Big 10 next, hopefully along with Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and maybe even Pittsburgh or Marquette by 2020 (that should get the Big 10 up to 20 teams). We'll have to rearrange the divisions to accommodate these new 2 teams into the current divisions by 2014; looking at the geographic location of all the teams I think it's time to move Wisconsin into the "Legends" division and move Maryland and Rutgers into the "Leaders" division. While we're at it this might be the time to change the names of those divisions, the Leaders name is such a bad one since it confuses anyone who wants to discuss the status of a team in that division: "who's the leader of the Leaders division?" or "who's losing in the Leaders division?". It just sounds funny and that's how most people will talk about the divisions...who's winning/leading in that division. Perhaps using the new geographic locations would work best...Legends should be changed to the Northwest division while the Leaders division could be changed to the Southeast division. Maybe people can come up with some more creative names like Legends = Lakes & Corn (Nebraska/Iowa have tons of corn while WI, MN, NW and MI are known for their lakes and they grow some corn) while Leaders = Rust & Salt (rust belt and salt water/air being near the coast).

Lot easier to go hunting than waste $500 on a Big Ten football game. Healthier too.

Meanwhile, the Ivy League is doing just fine with their academic programs. Football is a tiny diversion from studies in those institutions--the way it should be in all of them.
