The Lucas 2 is a great device. It performs essentially perfect CPR (at the correct rate and to the correct depth), while freeing paramedics' hands to provide other necessary care for a person in cardiac arrest. At CPR-Twin Cities, we teach traditional American Red Cross CPR and AED skills. And that helps to save lives. But, to be perfectly honest, as soon as possible, more advanced life support from on-scene medics is critical for survival. The Lucas device is one more tool in their toolkit to increase survival rates. I applaud St. Paul Fire for making this investment!
