My personal observation seemed to be that there wasn't a lot of impulsive buying. Target, an hour after they opened still had stacks of their doorbusters on the floor, Walmart less than 3 minutes to checkout, Best Buy at 8 am was quiet, got mobbed by bored clerks at OfficeMax, and was the only customer at Ashley Furniture when the doors opened. My wife said she was the only customer at Sears in the entire dept. Even at Target and Walmart, people were buying, but only a few items per cart. I think the numbers were buoyed up by shopper like me, buying large ticket items for the house at a good discount. Retailers must be nervous.
