If the facts end up being that two fit teenagers broke into a rural home, got all the way to the basement in their search for loot, and were then shot by a homeowner fearing for his safety then I have no sympathy for the teenagers and believe the home owner should face no charges or civil suits. Period. If he shot them in the back as they fled and then dragged them downstairs then he should face charges. Too bad the kids were dumb enough to be there in the first place. They would have entered the justice system at some point anyway, perhaps upright instead of horizontal, and perhaps after harming someone else.

According to his own statements, this should quite easily be considered cold blooded murder. He didn't want to defend himself, he wanted to have fun killing.

This whole story is very suspicious. 1. One of the kids was shot - the other one would have heard the shots if she was reasonably close. Why would she still come in? 2. Why did he have to wait 24 hours to report the crime?

Don't break into someone else's house and this won't happen to you. Period.
