Being moderate makes it easier to find middle ground, but compromise is not limited to just the moderates. Hubert Humphrey and Barry Goldwater, at the far left and far right of their parties, could negotiate and compromise. Centrists may help, but it is a willingness to get things don for the good of the country that is required. Republicans for the last four years have voted almost 100% of the time in lockstep as their leaders instructed. If that's the case, were there really any moderate Republicans since their votes were dictated by the far right?

Too bad the democrat party has moved so far to the hard left. Obama is hell bent on raising taxes on job producers and this would kill any recovery.

The Republican party would be better off without their liberal RINO's. They seem to do more damage than liberal democrats.

The modern day Democrat Socialist Party is nothing like it was when JFK was President. In fact, he would be considered a Conservative by today's standards and rected by the party, much like how former V.P. candidate Joe Leiberman was who had to leave.

"Increasing the top marginal tax rate has NO affect on jobs." _________ You don't raise taxes on ANYONE during bad economic times, especially job producers. Government can encourage job growth by just getting out of the way.

In the past 20-40 years, both the Democrats and Republicans have moved to the right. The Hard Right dominates the Republicans.

There is NO hard left power in the Dem party. If the left had power in the Dem Party we would be focusing on Global Warming, Universal Health Care, Affordable College Education, affordable housing, mass transit, peace, voting rights, the environment, taxing wealth and jobs for Americans.

Instead, the Dems are negotiating with Repubs on how much to take from the 95% of Americans who create the wealth for the 5% that control the power.

What I am saying is that today, the Democrats ARE the moderates, and the Left is unrepresented.

Greg "The Republican party would be better off without their liberal RINO's. They seem to do more damage than liberal democrats." ------ I'm conservative. Fiscally very conservative. You may have strong beliefs based on decent values. That said for the good of the country pragmatism needs to rule the day over ideology. To put it another way, you can get some of what you want or nothing. I prefer to get some of what I want. To dig in your heels does not benefit your causes.

"Increasing the top marginal tax rate has NO affect on jobs" ___________ Similiar logic is standing in a bucket and trying to lift yourself up by the handle. If you make it harder to do business, you will get less business done. Raise taxes on a business, especially a small one, it will use any profits to cover the increased tax burder instead of hiring or purchasing new equipment.

Higher taxes actually promotes jobs growth. Small business owners will invest back into their companies as opposed to taking it in profits.
