Holy cow! Does anyone think $243 million for a remodel is outrageous....let alone the utility of it. We have labored, delayed, fought and finally decided to spend a billion for a new football stadium which does seem like a lot, but this is 25% of that and seemed to have sneaked in under the wire.

if this remodel once again lasts 90 years before it needs remodeling, it isn't very much per year. The problem with the Stadium is that the Vikings are going to demand a new one in 30 years.

I believe the Union Depot was home to the Titanic Exhibition in 1998?

@ mnplsjohn or anyone: Yes, it is a LOT of money for remodel, and it is managed by a private group. I understand that most the money was from Federal budgets, but where did they get it? Yes, the states, of course. Those thinking its so great it was fed money that DID come back here instead of another city are still like people that are so excited to get a tax refund. It was your money to start with, Brainiac!

The Union Depot was home to a couple of restaurants for a brief period during the 1980s, one of which was a very upscale LeAnn Chin's. When the Titanic exhibit was displayed in the depot at the end of the '90s, there was an outdoor sounding of a whistle from the Titanic, featuring Norm Coleman, no less. Unfortunately, what was expected to be a loud blast came out a a wimpy little bleep. Let's hope that the new St. Paul Union Depot can sound its own horn!
