Why couldn't the Obama admin just say "No comment" or "we just don't know" instead of sending Amb Rice to lie to the American people. Petraeus said the CIA knew within a few hours it was terorism and not a spontaneous response to a video. That is sworn testimony. Events in Benghazi were followed in real time. That's a fact testified to under oath. If Rice had been telling the truth, that she was parrotting talking points, why didn't she come out right away and update herself as the facts became known? She didn't because she was lying and knew it at the time. This editorial in support of Rice is hogwash. The Washington Post should be ashamed of itself. It has done what Rice did-refuse to tell the truth even when the truth is known.

You have to be kidding! No-one is taking credit for the "made up" story about the video. Everyone denies it. And why would she be speaking for the Whitehouse, and not the President, Vice President, or Secretary of State? It sounds like she was covering for the President, a week before the election, to keep the myth of a successful defeat of terrorists alive. And it would follow that the President is now rewarding her. I can see why no-one put their name on this editorial.

What we do know is the White House watched the attack in real time. What we do know is the weapons used are not your garden variety plinking rifle. What we do know is when the left has no real argument (and often, even if they might) the next step is scream 'racism'. This pretty much voids their position.

Shocked to see this editorial waited until the 2nd to last paragraph to drop the race and gender card. The tried and true way to stifle debate on a subject where there are clear questions to be asked about the murder of a US citizen.

George Washington, in his farewell address, predicted that having parties in government would lead us to exactly where we find ourselves.... a non-functional, extremist government that doesnt want any centrist to intervene. They love the divisiveness because its good for the status quo, and its good for both parties. The only way I see out of this is to get the parties to function only outside of government. They can back or oppose any politician or candidate they they choose, but an elected official cannot claim an affiliation, Then... they could be free to vote for the best interest of the country and not just the party platform. Does anyone see a better way?

Ms. Rice, because of her actions vis a vis the Benghazi incident, lacks the trust of the American people. That may or may not be deserved, but it is a major factor that needs to be considered, especially in so essential a post as Secretary of State. Consequently, every move she makes or every public statement she utters will be questioned. America cannot afford that right now.

The republican party will be as dead as the 4 people that were killed if they keep up this conspiracy garbage. Sure, it will keep the hard core right wing mindless followers in line, but that will change when they are forced to move to the center WAY sooner than 6 weeks before the next election. And good luck with that.

Yes, how come the GOP wont show proof? You know, SOS Clinton wont show her face in this country, and Obama doesnt answer questions, nor does the media want to investigate Dem administrations. This editorial is a joke from start to finish, as is the fact this administration has any interest in truth or transparency.

I am a lib, but this wild accusation/non-accusation of racism is a red herring. Probably 80% of republicans congressmen are white males and the old confederacy is currently very republican. To throw that out at the end is really unprofessional.

Rice lied BECAUSE she was fed and repeated lies. She didn't stop to think anything trough; she followed "the boss". And WHY would a UN Rep step in to speak for a State Department Rep? Bottom line: send out a Black Female to speak for the administration. If ANYONE questions the response, the LEFT can scream Gender and Race. It's that simple.
