Black Friday gets a little less frenzied

Bargains now run from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, taking some of the luster off Friday as the ultimate one-day spectacle of shopping.

Sad in every way.

Thanks to you morons that do this, too. Because of your idiocy, people like my son had to skip out early on dinner, too, though he didn't want to, so that he could wait on your pathetic backside, and be up for over 20 straight hours to work a 12-hour overnight shift. Really appreciate it. Love having our holiday dinner cut short so you can have your piece of garbage cheap TV made in China that you neither need, nor will be functioning in 2 years. Thanks. Thanks tons. NOT!

I agree with mnmaid. Black friday shoppers need to stop and think who they are affecting by doing this crazy stuff, and is it really worth it? I had to leave dinner early and drive through the snowstorm from duluth to Minneapolis to go to work at 11:30 pm. not fun... I actually just got off work...

deal with it. Americans love Black Friday. Want to become a window washer on high buildings? WARNING: a hazard of your job is going to be that you'll be up very very high. Afraid of heights? Not the job for you.

Want to work at Target or Walmart or another retail outlet? WARNING: You may have to work black friday, which may end up starting on Thursday.

If you can't handle the occupational hazards of your chosen profession, then choose a profession that doesn't have that hazard. It's really simple. I'm sorry if your professions hazard is "I have to work on Thanksgiving"; mine is "random long hours, and sometimes working through the weekend". Do I come on here and whine about it? I'd rather be with my family, but such is life.

tranqwhl: Your comments are ignorant. Do you think people choose to work in retail? Most people take retail jobs because they don't have any other options and are trying to make ends meet as they go to school so they can get a better job. Others take retail jobs as a second job because their primary job doesn't fully provide for their families. Forcing people to work third shift hours during a national holiday is pathetic.

I agree with tranqwhl. Most all jobs require working some hours you'd rather not. Get over it, or find another job.

I'm astonished how so many people will do whatever the corporate powers tell them to do. How easily manipulated can they be? Well, very it seems. It's all so very sad and, well, pathetic.

That's funny. I slept in, had my coffee, read the paper, went and got a massage, then leisurely hit the stores on my own schedule. Every doorbuster was still readily available at every store I went to, which was all of the major ones. To quote Mr. T, I pity the fools who wasted their Holiday and whole night for nothing while ruining the Holiday for hundreds of workers.

@chrismlittle; I washed dishes instead of working retail. I had to work very late hours, and only had one day off a week. Holiday parties were part of what I did. I didn't like it, but it was part of the job. I didn't work Black Fridays though.

If people want to work other jobs, that have other bad parts, but not black fridays, that's up to them. However, one of the bad parts about working retail is the holiday hours. I'm sorry. Shoot the messenger if you want; but that's part of what you're signing up for. Otherwise be a waitress or a dishdog like I was. Don't want to do that? Then Black Friday must not be that bad. We all weigh the bad parts and good parts of a job, then make a decision.

OK for stores to be open on Black Friday, but not Thanksgiving or any other holiday. Bad for workers, bad for our psyches. Money is our God, for sure.
