US abortions drop 5 percent during recession; more birth control, bad economy likely causes

If a new drug caused 12 deaths they would pull it off the shelf immediately. Not sure why this is any different. That is a scary statistic.

Births are down by about the same percent. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that women are more cautious about getting pregnant during a recession.

boopser - about 670 women die each year due to pregnancy. (reuters: 6793 deaths from 1998 to 2005). what should we do about that?
