Well said Colonel!....and my prayers are with you and your family. Thank you so much for your service to our country.
To err is human, to forgive is.......? Necessary.
How do u deal with an affair? U don't have one to start with! There is no way u can fix ur self esteem or polish your shiny reputation after u show others u are a liar. Talk about weak morals.
In the grand scheme of things, many people have done a lot worse and suffered a lot less for it.
I am waiting for someone to chime in with their compassion card. How can u judge someone until u have experienced their pain? Man does not forgive, only god does? But men have to live with the consequences of their decisions. His affair has no bearing on my life but I certainly can have an opinion on his morals. And this is an opinion area.
Say what? To say having an affair (and the normal cheating, lying, betrayal, cruelty and dishonesty that are part of it) is a terrible thing, "but" you're only human, the "but" negates everything that goes before. Ya, let's give Petraeus a great big pass on this one for "being human." Character is character, and character dictates how one will behave in difficult situations. You don't have character in one aspect of your life but not others. What scares the bejesus out of me are all the people willing to give someone in Petraeus's position a "character pass" because "he's only human," or "it's between him and his wife and is none of my business." This guy was responsible for the security of me and my family, people he doesn't even know, and doesn't give a hoot about. If it is in him to betray the very people he is supposed to care the most about in this world, how can he be trusted to protect the security of the rest of us? I would be monumentally stupid to trust someone of such poor character making military decisions that are supposed to "protect" me and my family. What if he were tempted by an attractive young enemy woman? All you willing to give him a pass, come see me, I have a bridge I want to sell you.
Clinton was the best president ever!?!
Wow. I see no one giving him a pass. Especially the General himself.
"let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
Anyone couching this in terms of "only human," "none of my business," "forgiveness," "others have gotten away with more," or even "but" is excusing his unconscionable behavior and giving him a free pass. I don't give a flying hoot how this gets resolved within his family. What I care about is our national, and hence my individual, security, and how that may be affected by the character of the persons with whom I entrust it. A man's character is what he does in the face of great difficulty or temptation. We need to demand unassailable character in those to whom we entrust our national security. Just sayin'.
