Bottom line - Palestinian issue is the cause catalyst that gets recruits into the terrorist groups... If Israel does not actively seek a rapid and equitable resolution to the Palestinian issue, terrorism fills the terrorist ranks because of it. That lack of earnest effort in giving the Palestinians their UN rights and instead keeping the terrorist recruiting cause in place then makes Israel one of the main supporters of terrorism... Equally bad, more terrorists means more American soldiers die. Israel using the Palestinian issue for territory and cheap labor is Israel using American bodies for Israeli to gain territory and cheap labor. And any country that uses dead American troops for its own gain of dirt and money is no friend of ours.

The solution is what should have been done in 1948, the West Bank Palestinians go to Jordan and the Gazans go to Egypt. Problem solved.

FrankL, you still persist in believing that Palestinians are only too happy to pack up and move elsewhere. They aren't.

This part of the world will continue to be a tinderbox for many many years to come. Both sides feel that they are right and neither will back off. Over time, the fighting will continue to escalate until at some point most of the region will be involved, with deaths in the tens of thousands and massive destruction.

The Palestinian people are implicitly supporting Hamas and the firing of missiles into Israel by not resisting the action. Granted it will cost Palestinian lives to stand up to Hamas, but they have to recognize that by not resisting Hamas, they are knowingly putting themselves in harms way from collateral damage from Israel counterattack. Imagine the response from the world if the Palestinian people resisted Hamas. Once they began, it would be easy to ask for and receive international support to continue. By rejecting terror, they would force the world acceptance of a Palestinian state.

FrankL, sorry to inform you but the UN action in 1948 pushed a bunch of nomadic Palistinians off their land. Who cared? Actually, the creation of Isreal served two despicable purposes for the Europeans: give the Jews a place of their own and thus have them leave Europe...the second? This was merely a humane extension of Hitler's 'solution.' If you doubt this you must have forgotten how we created indian reservations here. If you doubt this you haven't seen the anti-semitism that still exists in Europe...especially France. Little did these people know that they were creating an even bigger problem...one that if left unchecked will draw in the entire world due to the Muslim/Judeo-Christian divide. There are no simple solutions but there are several that could make the situation even worse. Be careful what you wish for...

traderbill, since the Palestinians didn't own the land, it was awarded to Britian and France after WWI to administer and govern. There were multiple countries created out of this territory, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Israel, so there were plenty of options for the Palestinians to settle. The Jews wanted their own homeland before WWI so as to control their own destiny.

150 Palestinians dead; 1200 wounded. 3 Israelis dead. I no longer subscribe to the cry, "We're only defending ourselves", especially when Israel did a surgical strike to assassinate 9 Hamas leaders, then endlessly looped a video of this strike on TV. I consider this extreme provocation, and it lead to a predictable escalation of rockets aimed at Israel. The ratio of deaths over the last decade is said to be 90 Palestinians to 1 Israeli. Given that these people live in apartheid conditions, cut off from vital resources, it makes sense that the hatred can only build. One nation is living an abundant middle-class lifestyle while the other lives in squaller and desperation. One nation receives several billion of our tax dollars as well as sophisticated military equipment; the other has mostly home-made rockets. The conflict is further maintained by Israel's continued expanding of settlements into Palestinian territories. IMO, this is a powder keg largely created by Israel whose oppression and squeezing of Palestine triggers the very hostile action (rockets) from which Israel then needs to "defend" itself. Cease the blockades, create a two-state model, cease oppressing Palestine, cease expansion, or a lasting peace will never be possible.
