Having played for John in the late seventies, it is sad to see him retire. His legacy of coaching stands alone, but his incredibly profound impact on thousands of SJU players over the years will live on. I wish him the best in retirement and the chance to enjoy his family and friends....

The only St. John's game I ever watched was the very end of the 2003 national championship game against Mount Union. As the Johnnies snapped the ball and took a knee on the last play to run out the clock, they didn't start whooping, hollering, and celebrating. Instead, they immediately shook hands with and embraced their Mount Union opponents. Only after they respectfully congratulated their opponents did they begin celebrating. Coach Gagliardi, you did a good job not only of creating winning football teams but also in developing men of character.

As a former MIAC player, I want to say that I always enjoyed competing against SJU teams. They were well coached, clean, and classy teams. I wish you well in your retirement, Coach!

Funny, when the going finally gets tough, the stadium is deserted and the coach quits. I guess that pretty much sums up Johnnie football for ya. Who is the Strib going to kowtow to now that the most overrated coach in NCAA history has finally retired?

If Mike Grant gets the job St. Johns will become Eden Prarie North.
