Sid the guy goes to Stanford... Stanford!!! Why would he even consider going to the U of M when a school like Stanford was willing to give him a scholarship? A 4 year scholarship to Stanford is worth over a quarter million dollars... a 4 year scholarship to the U of M is worth like $80,000... No amount of text messages from Tim Brewster would change that math.

I still can't believe coaches won't/don't recruit their hometown players such as Brewstwe did not. The coach should at least recruit the top 3/4/5 players in each position from the talent in their state in which they coach (at least they should try). Just think of the current Gophers quarterback, from Mankato West - yes, I did play football against them back in the 70's - and yes, with him playing I am more intrigued to watch them. I sure hope that the new Gophers stadium will be ready for this upcoming Spring - nice to see this happen (somehow, I wish, that it had a dome).

Fortuntaely, he didn't waste his talent by staying home and playing for the University of Mediocrity.

I could be wrong but I assume one reason the Lakers signed D'Antoni is they want someone for the long term. Phil would be a fill in for a year or two until he decided to retire again. If he really wants to coach he shouldn't retire every few years.

The Gophers will never be able to sign the "blue chip" players that winning programs sign until they get an on campus open air stadium. That will change everything.
